Signatory Vintage continue to impress with their delightful range of Cask Strength whiskies. This time it is a 21 year old bottling of Diageo’s cult Highlander, Clynelish. Clynelish is the sister distillery of the (soon to be re-opened) Brora! Clynelish is known to be a favourite (alongside its sister distillery) of perhaps the internet’s most famous whisky collector, a Mr. Serge Valetin.
This bottling is truly a beauty. First distilled on the 21st of November 1995, the whisky was matured in a refill sherry butt (cask 11223) for 21 years, being bottled on the 27th of April 2017. Refill sherry suits Clynelish very well, adding delicious flavours of dried fruit, sweet oak and slight spice, but without taking away from the spirit’s natural mineralic dryness and creamy, waxy mouthfeel.
As always with this range, the whisky was bottled at a natural cask strength of 53% ABV, and is presented without either chill filtration or colouration. Just 546 decanter-style bottles of this whisky were produced. As this is a single cask bottling, it can never be restocked, and stock is highly limited. A beautiful bottling that demonstrates Signatory Vintage’s excellent eye for cask management.
