Caledonian 29 Year Old 1987 (Cask #23480) - Signatory Cask Strength
70 cl, 54.7%

A real rarity here, a mighty old single grain whisky from the closed Caledonian distillery.

This Lowland (based in Edinburgh) distillery was once the largest in Scotland, producing an incredible amount of spirit from its huge Coffey still and two large pot stills, which created something close to an Irish pot still style whisky. Spirit from this distillery was mostly used for blends, and is very rarely seen in single grain bottlings.

This whisky was distilled on the 10th of April 1987, and bottled on the 31st of January 2017, having been aged in a single hogshead (cask number 23480) for 29 years.

This is a mighty long time, and has given the grain whisky intense flavours of almonds, pears, biscuits, freshly baked madeira cake, vanilla custard, milk chocolate and slight barrel char. A bright cereal sweetness runs throughout this dram.

The whisky is bottled at a toasty cask strength of 54.7% ABV, and is natural in both colour and filtration.

Signatory Vintage have shown once again that long-aged single grain can be one of the most delicious spirits around. Just 233 bottles of this whisky were produced worldwide.
