Black Velvet uses the “blended at birth” method, combining the ingredient spirits together right after they have been distilled, rather than aging them first. This is said to contribute to a better integration of flavour. Malt, grain and rye whiskies are all thought to be used in this dram.
The final products is an approachable, mildly spicy whisky, with notes of mint, eucalyptus, toffee, rye spice, cinnamon, pepper, a little sweet malt, vanilla, gentle oak and cream.
Very easy drinking, this would make for a good base for cocktails.
