A formidable single cask bottling from impressive Belgian distillers, Belgian Owl.

The “Intense” range is a series of single cask, cask strength whiskies specially selected by Etienne Bouillon, the Master Distiller of Belgian Owl.

This particularly bottling is from cask number 5560227, a first fill former Bourbon American oak cask. Here, Belgian Owl have taken their 100% Belgian unpeated malt whisky, distilled in their over 100 year old Caperdonich pot stills, and have aged it in the cask for 42 months (about three and half years).

Belgian Owl also have a commitment to sourcing their malt barley from sustainable, fair trade farms.

The result is a whisky of real clarity, with an intense vanilla flavour and bright malt notes of toffee, citrus, banana and tropical fruit, alongside a good dose of Bourbon-style spice.

Bottled (onsite at the distillery) at an extraordinary 73% ABV, this dram can certainly take a little water. The spirit is also presented without chill filtration or artificial colouration.

Belgian Owl state they want to “offer you a tasting as if you were here with us, in our whisky storehouse” and they’ve certainly done that.

An excellent achievement by Belgian Owl, and a testament to their craft production.
