A top notch Irish single malt from Barr an Uisce, a Wicklow based producer.
This dram has been aged entirely in first fill former Bourbon barrels for ten years, developing a wonderfully creamy profile.
The final product offers up notes of thick vanilla, oak, cinnamon spice, chocolate, coffee, slight stone fruit, honey, dried fruits, plums, gingerbread and grassy malt.
Bottled at 46% ABV and without chill filtration, this is a luscious, medium bodied whiskey.
Barr an Uisce translates from Irish as “The Top of the Water”, and this is certainly a top spirit from this company. They actually take their name from the original Irish for Barraniskey, a town which sits above the water on the Irish east coast in Wicklow. Water from this region is used to cut their whiskies.
