A yummy limited edition, wine-finished whisky from the Ilse of Arran distillery.
Côte-Rôtie literally translates as “roasted slope”, and refers to the sun drenched hillsides found in the northern Rhône valley. Whilst these slopes get plenty of sun during the summer, they also experience challenging winters and springs for vintners. Nevertheless, the region is known for producing some of the finest Syrah wines in the world.
This whisky is aged initially in refill oak casks, before a finishing period in Côte-Rôtie red wine casks.
The final result is a rich, fruity dram with notes of red berries, lemon rind, dark chocolate chips, candied fruits, figs, plums, charred oak, honeyed malt, very faint wood smoke, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and a slightly floral note.
Bottled at generous 50% ABV, and without chill filtration or colouration, this more natural presentation allows the colours of the wine to shine through.
Fans of sherried whiskies should give this a go: a delicious dram, with a superb provenance.
