Wemyss are one of the industry’s great whisky bottlers and blenders, and this is another example of their eye of a good blend. Kiln Embers is a blended malt Scotch whisky, meaning it contains no grain whatsoever. Fans of Wemyss’ other excellent smoky blended malt, Peat Chimney, are in for a treat, as the company say that this dram offers up double the amount of Islay malt. This is a limited release from Wemyss, with only 12,000 bottles available, so drinkers should move fast to try this dram. On the nose this whisky is powerfully peated, with aromas of burning oak and ashy peat followed by bright citrus, smoked meats and slight iodine. The palate is warming with spicy oak flavours, a little malt sweetness, some powerful smouldering oak and tinned peaches. On the finish, the drinker is treated to a lasting sweet peat and spice note. Benefits from being bottled at 46% ABV and without chill filtration!
