An absolute beauty of a single cask rum from Dutch bottling company Ultimatum.

Foursquare are a Bajan distillery that enjoys one of the best reputations in the Caribbean. Run by maverick distiller Richard Seale, the distillery produces a great many high quality rum brands, such as R.L. Seale’s, Rum SixtySix and the Real McCoy. Foursquare have an emphasis on producing rum without any additional sugar. As the sign says at the entrance to the distillery “We do it right!”

Therefore, independently bottled rums from this distillery are highly sort after, particularly one with as mature as this bottling. This spirit was first distilled in June 1999, and bottled on the 28th of July 2017, drawn from a single former Bourbon barrel (cask number 7), the rum has reached a full 18 years of age.

This rum is what Richard Seale would call “a single blended rum”, a blend of column and pot still distillate from a single distillery. This rum is produced in the “English Style” and without any artificial colouring, chill filtration or additional sugar – a rarity in the rum world that will appeal to the purists out there!

After such a long maturity, drinkers can expect wonderful complexity and depth of flavour. This rum is rich in vanilla, brown sugar, plum, tropical fruit, citrus and cherry, with a little barrel char. Bottled at 46% ABV, this higher proof really kicks up the intensity of this rum.

Rum aficionados will welcome the level of detail on the label of this bottle, something rarely seen in rum, alongside its striking, nautical themed imagery. Only 362 bottles are available worldwide, so drinkers will have to move fast if they want to try this cracking Foursquare spirit!
