Once again, Dutch independent bottlers Ultimatum have cast some light on a rather unknown rum distillery. This time it is Destilleria Centro North, which is found in Venezuela.
This is a single cask, cask strength rum that has been aged for 11 years. Distilled in May 2007 and bottled on the 27th of November 2018, the rum has had plenty of time to age in its single former Bourbon barrel (number 10).
The result is an incredibly juicy and spicy rum, with flavours of allspice, vanilla, mango, pineapple, toffee, dried fruits, chocolate, treacle and rich brown sugar.
Bottled at hefty cask strength of 62.5% ABV, this is an extremely powerful rum, that rewards patient drinking and a drop of water. No colouration or chill filtration has been used with this bottling.
A rare chance to taste an unusual distillery’s product, just 259 bottles were produced.
