Another excellent Connoissuers Choice bottling from the stalward bottlers, Gordon & MacPhail.
This time they’ve picked out a Miltonduff whisky to bottle. The Speysider is another of this distillery’s that seems to fly under the radar a little, but shines in these Gordon & MacPhail bottlings. Traditionally, Miltonduff produces a lighter spirit with floral notes. A crucial part of the Ballantine’s blends.
This thirty year old release is just one example of the superb Miltonduff stock possessed by Gordon & MacPhail. The product of just one refill Bourbon barrel, the spirit was distilled on the 17th of July 1988, and bottled on the 25 of July 2018.
Refill casks are well suited to long aging, as illustrated by this whisky, which maintains an excellent balance of the distillery’s house style and the flavours of the cask.
The final result is an exceedingly complex and rich whisky, with notes of caramelized apples, juicy pears, milk chocolate, slight coffee, vanilla, cinnamon, liqourice, nutmeg, toffee, cloves, grapefruit, bananas, some tinned pineapple and peaches, oak and charcoal.
Bottled at 58% ABV, without chill filtration or artificial colouration, this is a fully natural and delicious dram.
Limited to just 125 bottles, each of which come with a wooden presentation box.
Simply stunning again from Gordon and MacPhail, this is a once in a lifetime bottling.
