Long Pond 11 Year Old 2007 TECC
70 cl, 62.5%

A fascinating rum from the legendary Long Pond distillery that will really appeal to the purists out there.

A 2007 vintage, this rum was distilled in a double retort still and aged in Jamaica for fully 11 years, having been bottled in 2018. Long Pond is known in the rum community for producing some of the funkiest spirit around.

This bottling bears the distillery’s TECC marque (the exact meaning of which is somewhat unknown) the equivalent of Hampden Estate’s DOK marque, signifying the extremely high number of esters present in the rum. In this instance, the bottling contains a massive 1500 grams per hectolitre of pure alcohol. The legal limit is 1600 grams. The high level of esters places the rum into the “Continental Flavoured” category, the top end of Jamaica’s national marques – beyond “Common Clean”, “Plummer” and “Wedderburn”.

So how does it taste? Rather remarkable. This is a complex and rich rum, with the tropical aging and funk coming together to produce something quite incredible. Drinkers should expect notes of intense umami (marmite / soy), oak, cinnamon, allspice, ripe bananas, extremely tart gooseberries and lemons, cognac, chocolate, very ripe mangos and pineapple, vanilla, grapes and funky molasses.

Bottled at a ripping strength of 62.5% ABV, this is an intense rum that is not for the fainthearted.

Drawn from 11 barrels, just 3325 bottles were produced. An excellent example of this style that will beguile the aficionados.
