Kirkwall Bay
70 cl, 46%

Another delicious mystery dram from Morrison and Mackay, who also produced the well-regarded Càrn Mòr independent bottling series.

This whisky follows on from the Big Strand and Riverflow, mystery single malts that represented Islay and Speyside respectively. Kirkwall Bay, represents Orkney, and is named after the cove near the island’s capital of Kirkwall.

As there are only two distilleries on Orkney (we are going to go ahead and discount that this is Stromness) Highland Park and Scapa, and this is said to be from the former.

The whisky was matured in former Bourbon barrels, both refill and first fill, giving the dram some nice sweetness.

This dram serves up flavours of tempered peat, vanilla, slight mint, earthy funk (almost Campbeltown-esque), brown sugar, almond, fresh bread, apples, lime rind, coffee and lemon.

Bottled at 46% ABV and without chill filtration, this dram is well-bodied and satisfying.
