A wonderful, experimental blend from Johnnie Walker. This bottling is the result of Johnnie Walker’s team of 12 expert blenders conducting more than 100 experiments. Johnnie Walker has a history of these pioneering endeavours, with similar efforts producing the iconic Black Label a century ago.
This particularly bottling was created by Aimée Gibson, and is made using barley which has been more heavily roasted than is usual. This produces a grain which looks, smells and tastes similar to finely roasted coffee beans.
The result is a deeply flavoured blended Scotch, with plenty of dark, earthy aromatic notes, alongside toffee, bittersweet espresso, chocolate and rich, warm barley flavours. These flavours are given a boost by the 43.2% ABV strength.
Johnnie Walker even go so far as to suggest serving this dram up in an espresso cup, or alongside some sweet vermouth and coffee liqueur in a kind of espresso martini.
A delightful little whisky, that proves that Johnnie Walker remains an innovative and exciting company.
