Over the years, Signatory Vintage have gained a superb reputation for bottling some of the best whiskies around. Particularly, the cask selections in their Cask Strength range have been widely praised for their quality.
The reputation is well-earned, with bottles such as this one proving the company’s commitment to quality. This particular bottling is a bottle of Glenburgie, a very overlooked distillery that provides much of the malt content of Ballantine’s.
This bottling is a genuinely small batch production, drawn from just two Hogshead casks, numbers 6526 and 6527. The whisky was distilled on the 15th of June 1995, and bottled on 27th of April 2017, having been matured for fully 21 years.
The result is a fabulously flavoursome dram, replete with notes of oaky vanilla, bananas, pineapples, warm malt and the slightly meaty funk for which Glenburgie is known.
The flavours of this whisky benefit immeasurably from the fact bottled at a formidable cask strength of 57.6% ABV, and without either chill filtration or artificial colouration.
Just 429 bottles of this whisky are available worldwide.
