A delicious Connoisseurs Choice bottling from perennial whisky experts, Gordon and MacPhail.
For this bottling they have turned to Glenburgie, a much underrated Speyside distillery which is a vital part of the Ballantine’s blends, and therefore not often seen as a single malt. The spirit here is meaty and oily, and particularly shines in Sherry casks.
This is an excellent example of the style, matured in a first fill sherry butt for 20 years, having been distilled in 1997 and bottled on the 5th of September 2018.
The result is a sumptuous and flavoursome whisky, with powerful notes of stewed fruit, figs, prunes, Christmas cake, leather, old oak, sherry, chocolate, toffee, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves.
Bottled at a generous cask strength of 59.9% ABV, and without chill filtration or colouration, the whisky is presented at its natural best.
A superb sherried dram, only 396 bottles are available.
