Well aged single grain whisky is a beautiful thing, and here is an excellent example of the style – a cracking 1994 Girvan from Càrn Mòr’s Celebration of the Cask range.
This whisky has been aged for 24 years in a single former Bourbon barrel. Such a long maturation has allowed the typically light spirit style to develop a real depth of flavour and complexity.
The dram delivers tonnes of baked pastry and bready flavours, with notes of Tarte au Citron, vanilla, Danish pastry, canned pineapple, buttered popcorn, cream, golden syrup, a little greenish oak, cinnamon spice and a touch of cracked black pepper.
Bottled at a warming 49.7% ABV and without colouration or chill filtration, this dram has a great, weighty body.
A sweet, easy drinking, yet wonderfully complex Girvan whisky.
