Another bottling from the redesigned 2018 Connoisseurs Choice outturn from Gordon and MacPhail.
This is a bottling from Dufftown distillery, which has had the misfortune to share a location with Glenfiddich, meaning it has been rather cruelly overlooked. Traditionally a blender’s favourite, the spirit was largely used for the famous Bell’s, blend, and has a slight grassy, spicy and malt-rich style.
This bottling was aged for 18 years in a single first fill former Bourbon barrel, having been distilled in August 1999 and bottled in February 2018.
This whisky serves up delicious notes of creamy vanilla, marshmallow, ginger, milk chocolate, tropical fruit, honey, cinnamon, cedarwood and tobacco.
A wonderful example of how delicious first-fill Bourbon cask matured whisky can be.
This dram was bottled at a cask strength of 54.5% ABV, and without chill filtration or colouration.
Really excellent stuff from Gordon and MacPhail, probably the best value offering in the 2018 release.
