Collectivum XXVIII (2017 Special Release)
70 cl, 57.3%

A truly fascinating spirit that formed a part of Diageo’s famous Special Releases for 2017.

This is the first ever blended malt to feature in the Special Releases, this was a keenly anticipated release, particularly because it includes spirit from all 28 of Diageo’s Scotch malt whisky distilleries.

These are, in alphabetical order: Auchroisk, Benrinnes, Blair Athol, Caol Ila, Cardhu, Clynelish, Cragganmore, Dailuaine, Dalwhinnie, Dufftown, Glendullan, Glen Elgin, Glenkinchie, Glenlossie, Glen Ord, Glen Spey, Inchgower, Knockando, Lagavulin, Linkwood, Mannochmore, Mortlach, Oban, Roseisle, Royal Lochnagar, Strathmill, Talisker and Teaninich. Truly a collection remarkable for both its quantity and quality.

Believe the hype. This is a superbly balanced blended malt, with a good deal of waxy Clynelish-character opeing up the palate, soon accompanied by cooked, spiced fruits, warm barley caramel, roasted hazelnuts, a light maritime peat, dense vanilla, rich stone fruit, boiled sweets and bananas.

Bottled at a very generous 57.3% ABV, this proof ensures the multi-faceted complexities of this whisky are fully on show.

It has been said that this whisky resembles old Clynelish and Brora offerings, and with all the rich tropical fruits and light, tarry peat, this is an excellent comparison.

An absolutely fantastic whisky, a bottle of liquid history, that illustrates that even the big boys can experiment well.
