Carsebridge 34 Year Old 1982 (Cask #74603) - Signatory Cask Strength
70 cl, 49.9%

A glorious offering from Signatory Vintage, forming part of the illustrious Cask Strength range.

Carsebridge grain whisky is rarely seen these days, with stocks of the closed distillery’s spirit dwindling. A Lowland distillery based in Alloa, Carsebridge was once one of the biggest grain distilleries in Scotland. Carsebridge closed in 1983, meaning that this bottling is from the penultimate distilling year.

Aged for a staggering 34 years, the 1982 vintage was drawn from a single refill sherry butt in 2017. Single grain whiskies often shine and great ages, and that is the case here, with the long maturation providing the light, cereal-forward spirit with weight and complexity.

The whisky opens with notes of cedarwood, fresh pastry, dark chocolate, hazelnut, toasted almonds and dusty oak. These are soon followed by flavours of earthy spice – coriander and cumin – and rich vanilla custard, toffee and honey. A little fruity cherry and strawberry appears towards the end.

Bottled at a cask strength of 49.9% ABV, although a touch lower than the average cask strength bottling, these lower cask strength proofs are known to be supple and incredibly intense. The whisky is also non chill filtered and natural in colour.

A brilliant single grain whisky, at a great price for a dram of this age, merely 169 bottles were produced.
