A beautiful, long aged Auchroisk from Signatory Vintage’s Cask Strength series.
Auchroisk (pronounced ‘Orth-Rusk’) makes a spicy, somewhat singed and nutty style of spirit beloved by blenders. Not often seen as a single malt, the speedy production leads to a spirit that presents as sweet and well poised after maturation.
This bottling is an excellent example of the distillery’s style. The dram was matured in a refill butt for 27 years, having been distilled on 15th August 1990, and bottled on 25th July 2018, just a few weeks shy of its 28th birthday. Such a long maturation has given this whisky superb character.
Drinkers should expect flavours of zinging ginger, honey, almond, toasted bread, peppery spice, cinnamon, milk chocolate, light dusty oak, cream, vanilla, marzipan, nutmeg and a touch of pastry. The spirit is bottled at a weighty 53.7% ABV and without chill filtration or colouration.
Sweet, simple and creamy, this is a whisky that wears its age very well.
