One of our “Desert Island Drams” here at Fine Drams. Glendronach have long been known for producing some of the best sherried whiskies on the market.

The Allardice carries the name of James Allardice, who founded the distillery, and had a novel approach to marketing his wares. After a failed sales trip to Edinburgh, Allardice gave away his stock to the prostitutes of the city. The women then shared it with their friends, and soon it was being demanded in pubs. Suddenly, bartenders who were previously uninterested in Glendronach began to ask Allardice to supply them.

Glendronach 18 is a fitting tribute to the maverick distiller. This is amongst the very best in their standard range, a fully Oloroso cask matured single malt, with plenty of first fill barrels in the mix.

Drinkers can expect a whisky with a luxurious body, and incredibly rich palate. Wave after wave of dried fruit, thick ginger-led spices, vanilla, fudge, dark chocolate, sour cherries, raspberry jam, coffee, cloves and cinnamon. The flavours benefit immeasurably from the spirit being bottled at 46% ABV and without artificial colouration.

Simply one of the best sherried malts on the market today.
